The Up’s of Down!: Full Interview with Esme Traverzo @ Ludus Studios & Dream. Work. Conquer. Films

By Sundown & The United

What is your position and what do you achieve in your work for Ludus/DWC films to be major player in the film industry?

Esme@Ludus: My role is Art Director. High quality, if we’re going to do something, do it to the best! No matter what the value of the project, and it’s even better when we exceed the client’s expectations. To be a major part of the industry, you have to eat, sleep & breathe filmmaking!

I defiantly see things in a different light since entering the movie world. Even the way I watch blockbusters is totally different from the past. I look at the shots, camera angles, sound effect, & spotting continuity hiccups!

How did all of you meet and find your way here at the Studio? Was it an Ad? A friend of a friend? School? A crazy night of drinks and The Worst. Movie. Ever. Moment?

Esme@Ludus: (British trailer voice) This epic tale of 2 independent individuals, on two different continents. Both creative, ambitious, youthful & used to the lifestyle of little sleep & fast deadlines. She traveled the world organizing huge conferences. He was an entrepreneur & aspiring director. Having mutual friends for 2 years, never knowing these would eventually become as close as a family. Finally their paths passed, in New Orleans.  Their connection was clear from the start & he began to share his passion of filmmaking with her. Seducing her with his charm, to stay with him forever!

What has your environment in Dallas and experience at Ludus Studios done to achieve your goals?

Here in Dallas we’re surrounded by talented minds. The whole city is a huge potential film set, with each district offering different locations, full of awesome props, & finding the FUTURE A-List stars to capture in-front of the lens.

Music motivation?

Esme@Ludus: Music that motivates me to be creative are the great Gods of Rock: Led Zeppelin, Guns n’ Roses, Jimmy Hendrix, David Bowie, Metallica. MJ & I have to say the greatest band in the world…Tenacious D! To escape & remind myself that life doesn’t have to be complicated. I listen to Tibetan Mantra. Life’s never really that tough. As they have no personal freedom or even a country anymore, to call home!

Best movie theme music?

Esme@Ludus: STAR WARS!!  WOW there are soooooo many great movie theme songs you get stuck in your head: The Lost Boys, Indiana Jones, Ghost Busters, Little Shop of Horrors, BeetleJuice….however I think most of what I am thinking is the soundtrack & score, that are just as important in filmmaking as the acting & story. Everything works together!

What’s your genre of film, you can picture yourself getting lost in forever?

If you think about it we are all already in a movie, we call LIFE. For most people it’s usually a comedy-romance genre blended with action-adventure, drama. If you live in the desert you are instantly in a Sci-Fi movie life!! & If you live here in Dallas you’re going to have to through in a mix of Western, just for being in TX! Yee Haa!

Equipment, what you packing? Your favorite and why and where is the best time to use it? For all those film students that don’t have a clue.

A Sawing Machine! Make your own genre wardrobe. It’s cheaper to create the vision you have for your actors, than hunting for the perfect outfit. As well as altering costumes, creating drapes/curtains, even fixing soft-boxes!

What does this Studio mean to you?

Esme@Ludus: Live, Love, LUDUS

As you all move forward, what does the future of entertainment in Dallas and the surrounding areas of Texas reveal to you?

Esme@Ludus: There are so many aspiring models, artists, musicians, writers, dancers, makeup artists, and performers. We want to capture their talent in film & also help expose their talents to the Nation, & potentially propel them (& us) into the bright lights of Hollywood. Are our paths already written? Are we discovering a script that’s laid out for us to find? This is when we are in the Adventure genre of our lives! However I am lucky enough to already know the greatest people behind the camera, from Editors, Directors, Score Writers to DP’s. As they are all part of LUDISIAN LEGION ENTERTAINMENT LLC.

Chace, a colleague of yours and one of our writing contributors, mention that you guys literally eat sleep work there. How does the living situation create the dynamic there at the studio?

Esme@Ludus: The Studio is where we are 24/7 & we are all a family here. Always working, playing & being creative together. Combining all our ideas & talents together, it’s the best environment to be in. Live, Love, LUDUS!
